Penang Dermatology Symposium 2010 Report

Penang Dermatology Symposium 2010 (Theme: General Dermatology)

The Penang Dermatology Symposium 2010 was held on the 8th - 9th May 2010 at the auditorium, ACC, Hospital Pulau Pinang. It was organized by the Department of Dermatology, Hospital Pulau Pinang in collaboration with PGMES, Hospital Pulau Pinang, Dermatological Society of Malaysia and College of Physician, Academy of Medicine (Faculty of Dermatology).

The objective of this course is to introduce a regular continuous medical education programme for government doctors & private practitioners with the hope of improving standard of care in Dermatology. The topics covered were the common dermatologic conditions we encounter in our daily practice like management of psoriasis, acne vulgaris, atopic eczema, blistering disorders, urticaria, hair loss, skin signs in systemic diseases, vitiligo and hypopigmentation, facial pigmentation and skin rejuvenation, cutaneous adverse drug reaction and also Stevens-Johnson Syndrome, Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis and DRESS.

We had about 250 participants, mainly medical officers and a few specialists, pharmacists and private practitioners from the state of Penang, Kedah, Perak, Selangor and Negeri Sembilan. The sessions went on well with active participation and interaction between participants and speakers.

The speaker were Dr Agnes Heng (HOD, Dept of Dermatology, Hospital Ipoh), Dr Tang Min Mong(Dermatologist, Hospital Kuala Lumpur), Dr Koh Chuan Keng (Private Consultant Dermatologist), Dr Lo Kang Shang Chit (Private Consultant Dermatologist), Miss Lim Lay Hooi (Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon, Hospital Pulau Pinang), Dr Chan Lee Chin (HOD, Dept of Dermatology, Hospital Pulau Pinang), DrTan Wooi Chiang (Fellow in Dermatology, Dept of Dermatology, Hospital Pulau Pinang) and Dr Kalaikumar (Senior MO, Dept of Dermatology, Hospital Pulau Pinang). 

Our heartfelt gratitude's to all our invited speakers, sponsors, hospital and state director for their support, in making this events possible and a success. To all our participants, we hope you all have had an enjoyable and productive weekend.
